What to look out for in Winter:
The garden is particularly peaceful in the winter. It is a great time to visit our conifer collection in the pinetum. Here we have Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis). These are sometimes called living fossils as very similar trees lived at the time of the dinosaurs. In their native Australia, Wollemi pines are critically endangered.
There is lots of wildlife to see in the garden in Winter including red squirrels, moorhens, long-tailed tits, redwings, bullfinches, treecreeper and sparrowhawk.
RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch: 30th/ 31st January
You are more than welcome to join in with the Big Garden Birdwatch here in the garden. We’ll have spotters sheets and a self-guided bird trail to join in with.
If you’re not able to visit the garden in person then we also have a fun bird quiz that you can do from the comfort of your own home- click here to have a go.
